Kremena Dilcheva Short Biography

The Mezzosoprano Kremena Dilcheva was born in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria and took her first piano and ballet lessons at the age of five. She attended the local musical school and showed, in a number of piano concerts, her early talent in music.


Kremena graduated with honours the Musical Academy in Sofia and was also a student of the former Berlin State Opera Kammersängerin Soprano Julia Wiener. In a two-year master class taught by Prof. Daphne Evangelatos at the High School for Music and Theater (Hochschule für Musik und Theater) in Munich, Germany Kremena enriched further her signing talent. The one, who helped Kremena reach excellence in her performing is Matteo Brambilla - Teatro alla Scala di Milano. The mezzosoprano was a member of the Junges Ansamble in the Bayerische State Opera.


Kremena's international career began immediately after her graduation. Her participation in Sarti’s opera “Gulio Sabino” staged by the prestigious Opera Studio of Teatro alla Scala di Milano was recorded on a CD. For her performance as Annio in Mozart's La clemenza di Tito in Ulm, Germany Kremena was nominated as the "best new young opera singer" by the international magazine Opernwelt. Since then, Kremena has been performing in a number of famous theaters in Germany, Italy and abroad. Her repertoire includes, among others, such roles as: Cherubino, Sesto, Rosina, Romeo, Dorabella and many others.


Important step in Kremena’s career was meeting Mr. James Levine at the beginning of 2003, when she participated in the Opera Moses und Aaron by Schonberg, conducted by the Maestro. Right after that Mr. Levine invited her to participate as Judith in Bartok’s opera “Bluebeard’s Castle”, which was recorded in a CD by Oehms Klassik. Later Kremena took part in 12 concerts with Mr. Levine, among which: Parsifal, Wagner and Midsummernight`s Dream, Mendelssohn, the latter of which was performed with great success in front of 8000 people at the Annual Open-air concert at Odeonsplatz in Munich, Germany.


In 2012 Kremena sang for a first time in China, performing with great success Lisinga in Gluck's opera "Le Cinesi", staged at the prestigious Peking - Mei Lanfang Grand Theater in Peking, China.


The mezzosoprano took part in a number of important festivals, such as: Ravenna Festival, Italy; "Festival Musica Mallorca"- (Gold Award); Knowlton Festival, Canada; Donizetti Festival, Italy; Schloss San-Souci Festspiele, Germany, ect.


Kremena has been working with the following Maestros: James Levine, Friedrich Haider, Ottavio Dantone, George Pehlivanian, Theodor Guschlbauer, Emil Tabakov, Alkis Panayotopoulus, Ariel Zuckermann, Pietari Inkinen and many others.


The highlight of the first half of year 2015 was the great success of Kremena with the Berliner Philcharmony in Bethoven`s 9th Symphony


Kremena speaks 5 languages: English, German, Italian, Russian and Bulgarian.
